BSA Scout Troop #692

Hello & Welcome,

Troop 692 is proud of their scouts.  Playing hard, working hard and keeping physically fit is our goal.  We have traveled to New Mexico for hiking, CapeCod for biking, Florida for boating.  We serve our community in many ways.

Scouts build skills to prepare them for bigger trips as they get older. For example, in 2016 senior Scouts spent two weeks on a Wilderness Canoe Trip in Canada! And in 2017, Scouts went on a sailing trip in the Bahamas! These are just a few of the many adventures that can happen through Scouting.

Boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 17 can join at any time and are encouraged to do so.  Please give me a shout if your son or daughter is interested.  He or she can come by and check us out!

Mr. Medici, Scoutmaster

Bottle drive a HUGE success!

Posted on Jul 11 2020 - 11:10am

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Bottle Drive this past Wednesday!  In spite of the stormy weather and thanks to the generosity of many in our community, our Troop collected enough cans and bottles to fill an entire bay of the Nesbit family's barn.  Four days later, we're still collecting cans and bottles from families who missed the event on Wednesday and we've received at least $115.00 in donations.  Due to the high volume of cans we collected (and are still collecting), it will be a little while before we know the final tally. Based on what we collected, however, we can safely say that we vastly exceeded our initial expectations. At some point we will likely need some help sorting the cans and bottles for delivery to the redemption center, so please stay tuned for an announcement about that.  A special thank you goes out to the Nesbit family for storing all of the bottles and cans in their barn. Great job, Troop 692!

Bottle Drive on 7/8 - Please sign up

Posted on Jul 2 2020 - 6:06pm

Just as a reminder that we have a bottle drive coming up.  This is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8th at 5:00pm and we need as many Scouts and parent drivers as possible in order to pull this off.  Remember, we are doing this to earn money to buy new t-shirts for the Scouts.  If you haven't done so already, please sign up on the website. We hope to see you all there! We'll also need some empty boxes and bins to hold some of the cans and bottles we collect.  Please bring any spare boxes you might have to the pickup.

EXCITING things coming up!

Posted on Jun 18 2020 - 9:46pm

Just because the Scouting year is over, doesn't mean that the fun has to end!  We have a few GREAT things coming up and we hope that everyone can join us!  Check it out:   Wednesday, July 8th - To offset the loss of the Hot Dog Sale, we will be holding a community-wide bottle/can drive to support the Troop.  After announcing the drive to the public, we will break off into small groups to start canvasing neighborhoods and collecting bottles and cans that people leave on the curb. Please sign up on the website.  We will need adults to help out with the driving.  Saturday, July 11th - We will meet in the Williston Central School parking lot at 8:00am and then head up to the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail for a day of biking.  Please sign up on the website. We are also putting together tentative plans to do a long weekend of a Troop 692 overnight camp.  Please stay tuned for announcements about that.  We also already have a canoe trip set up for September and an overnight hiking trip in the Adirondacks scheduled for early October.  You can find out more about those events on the website.

Troop Bottle Drive in Planning in Process

Posted on Jun 13 2020 - 8:34am

Troop 692,

The committee is planning the details for a bottle drive to happen soon.  It is our goal to make some money to offset not having the hot dog sales at the 4th of July parade.  More details will come.  Please save your cans and bottles for us.  Start asking your neighbors to save them for you also.  Julia is offering her barn as a collection point.

Schedule Updates

Posted on May 22 2020 - 8:33am
Here are some updates on some of our upcoming events:
Boards of Review - If you haven't done so already, Scouts who are ready to advance to the next rank should contact Mr. Cotton at cotbob80@hotmail.com to schedule a Board of Review.  We will be offering Scouts the chance to either do them in person or do them virtually, so please let Mr. Cotton know what your preference is.  Right now, our hope is to hold the Boards of Review for Tuesday, May 26th.  We will need parents to volunteer to sit on the Boards, so please reach out to Mr. Cotton if you can help out.
Green Up Day - On the morning of May 30th, our Troop will once again be participating in Green Up Day.  The plan is to have each patrol cover a different location in groups of ten or less.  This is a great way to help the community and to earn some service hours, so please sign up on the website!

Philmont work outs

Posted on May 16 2020 - 5:36pm

I did a nice 3.5 mile hike for Philomint training.  Milton town forest has a nice workout hike for preparing for Philmont. I did my push ups too. Scouts, make sure you are in shape for Philmont or just summer.
